Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator

  • Hours – 37 hours- 8.30 – 5.00 Monday to Thursday (hour lunch) 8.30 – 4.30 Friday (Half hour lunch)
  • Salary – Starting salary will be circa. £22,000 p.a. the role will offer travel expenses and other benefits.
  • Initially 6 month contract (leading to full time permanent)

We are looking to recruit an Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator in the South Wales and South West region. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and creative graduate with a commitment to sustainable and environmental excellence and innovation, to move into the construction industry and help drive our well-respected and diverse organisation to new levels of excellence in these fields.

At Lovell we work with local authorities and housing associations to create sustainable communities and leave a positive legacy wherever we work. We develop new housing, construct and refurbish people’s homes and create homes for rent, shared ownership and open market sale. Lovell’s expertise is creating large-scale and social renewal throughout the country.

Reporting directly to the Regional Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, the successful candidate will be required to check compliance with environmental policy arrangements and business systems procedures as part of the inspection and auditing process.  You will provide support, advice and guidance to all departments as appropriate and create a positive approach to help and drive a culture of excellence in environmental and sustainable practices.

You will be required to undertake regular environmental inspections and audits, the results of which are to be recorded and discussed with regional management. As our expert in this field, you should be comfortable in making recommendations for improvement.   The role should promote a positive environmental culture within the business requiring excellent communication and presentation skills at all levels.

Job purpose

To introduce best practice, drive standards and monitor performance against our Total Commitments to environmental and sustainability excellence. Prepare reports pertaining to each pillar of commitment to meet transparent progress. Liaise with all departments for input.


  1. Interface with all departments to drive our total commitments to sustainability including presenting at all regional new starter induction sessions.
  2. Input on sustainability aspects of tender submissions/PQQ etc
  3. Promote culture of sustainability through the Total Commitments via workshops and support toward continuous improvements.
  4. Explain company policies and deliver progress reports throughout all offices and construction sites in the region.
  5. Produce and issue regular performance reports to the region
  6. Attend Group sustainability forums as required.
  7. Chair regional sustainability forum meetings.
  8. Assist with ISO 9001 and 14001 compliance with our integrated management system.
  9. Collate data for CEMARS, CRC, ESOS and other similar as appropriate


  • Interface with all departments
    • Engage with relevant departments to drive sustainable commitments into systems, exploring opportunities for improvements, targets and objectives. Present sustainability strategies to new starters at the regular regional induction days.
  • Input on sustainability aspects of tenders/PQQs
    • Provide support to bid teams when required both directly and by establishing and maintaining a verified answer database which can be readily accessed
  • Promote culture of sustainability through the Total Commitments via regional workshops, intranet information and continuous improvements.
    • Visit sites across the region to deliver workshops to continuously update and improve understanding and implementation of sustainability
  • Explain company policies and deliver progress reports throughout the region
    • Regularly and accurately deliver our sustainability policies and best practices throughout the region.
    • Provide appropriate reports for regular issue.
  • Produce and issue regular performance reports to the region
    • Produce a monthly report on current progress, highlighting any relevant issues.
  • As required, act as regional spokesperson on divisional sustainability forums
    • Attend Lovell sustainability forum meetings and provide input into meeting on regional progress against group commitments and report back to business any new initiatives.
  • Chair regional sustainability forums meeting
    • Arrange, prepare and present relevant information at each forum. Maintain records of each forum.
  • Assist in maintaining ISO 9001 and 14001 system within LIMS
    • Assist the regional HS&E manager in monitoring LIMS system for compliance with both standards via our internal audit system.
  • Collate data for CEMARS, CRC, ESOS and other similar as appropriate
    • Collect relevant regional data and statistics and report to National Sustainability Co-ordinator for input into Group submissions.
